One Step At A Time….

One Step At A Time....

I was reading quotes somewhere a few weeks ago and came across this one: “You never know what’s around the corner. It could be everything or it could be nothing. You keep putting one foot in front of the other, and then one day you look back and you’ve climbed a mountain.” -Tom Hiddleston. I can say that I have experienced this, I have physically climbed one mountain and figuratively climbed many mountains in my short 25.5 years on this planet. Each time as if a weight has been lifted, but soon realize that I will have to face another mountain potentially with a higher peak to reach. I like that challenge, that is what makes our lives worth living and what keeps us pushing forward and it allows us to grow.

Also here is a post I wrote about my night climb of Mount Monadnock to see the sunrise. https://paperdaisygirl.wordpress.com/2012/08/27/mountains/

Mountains….

27 Aug

So this past Friday evening (24 August 2012) around 11:30 pm a group of us from Providence, Boston, New York and New Hampshire towards Mount Monadnok in Jaffery, NH. Yes we climbed a mountain at 2am. In the middle of the night. Simply to watch the sunrise. The climb was difficult. My joints and muscles cramped more than I wanted them to, luckily I had three lovely climbing buddies who waited for me while I had to take frequent breaks. At one point one of the people climbing with me said (hopefully jokingly) that if anyone decided to turn around and go back down towards the car they would also go. I however was determined to get to the top and see the sunrise. I knew before we started the climb that my joints would scream all the way up the mountain. I refused to give up, I fought through the pain and made it to the top of the mountain with an hour and a half to sit and wait for the sun to wake up and peak through the clouds.

When we reached the top…. I jokingly said “Guys I just sweat out my Lyme disease.” -> Yes I realize that is not possible. I found a spot to lay down on and then I just stared at the stars. I watched them twinkling in the sky. Oddly, I was reminded of a scene in the Lion King, the one where Mufasa is talking to Simba about the great kings and how they are the stars and they will be up there to guide him. “Simba, let me tell you something my father told me. Look at the stars. The great kings of the past look down on us from those stars. ….So whenever you feel alone, just remember that those kings will always be there to guide you. And so will I.”   This past year has been all about me figuring things out and letting go of things and most of all conquering the things I never thought I would be able to do. I managed to climb a mountain which I honestly didn’t think I was going to be able to finish because of health problems yet to be figured out and fixed. I sat there at the top and suddenly felt overwhelmed, knowing the sunrise was a start to a new chapter in my life. Things will get better from here… I may not have the kings watching over me… but my guardian angel already taught that I should persevere and live my life to the fullest and not let anyone or anything get in my way to tell me that I can’t do the things I want to do.Image
