“Under My Mask” by Cailin Thompson

4 Mar

Under my mask

I hid behind a smile

Under my mask

I hid my hurt and anger

Under my mask

I cried myself to sleep

For nights

Under my mask

My friends looked past

missed a hello and a good bye

Under my mask

my tears and screams

were invisible

Where are you you? Who am I? What are we going to do now? Why did you all run away and leave me here, out on my own in this dark and dismal place?

Under my mask

I was in my own space

Under my mask

I sat in a corner

Under my mask

I kept the door

To my heart shut

to all who once called

me friend

Under my mask

is what a few select friends

have seen

You are no where. Who knows what we are to do next or why you ran away.

But I am me

mask torn in two

Lying in the corner
